Delight yourself and your audience by learning how to play the clarinet at the Young Musicians’ Academy.
What You Will Learn
The clarinet has a rich history, with clarinet-type instruments once popular in Ancient Greece and Egypt. The modern clarinet is based off a Baroque instrument. Mozart and Beethoven adored the tone of the clarinet and wrote many good parts for it.
Though pretty simple in looks, the clarinet takes skill, precision and a keen understanding of notes, tones and proper breathing to play properly. You’ll learn all this and more at the Young Musicians’ Academy.
How Our Clarinet Lessons are Different
At the Young Musicians’ Academy, we have one guiding principle: Put fun in everything. While learning an instrument is a serious undertaking that requires a lot of patience and hard work, our professional music teachers know how to make learning fun so that our students actually look forward to the lessons!
Who Is It Ideal For?
Anyone who wants to learn how to play a music instrument is welcome at the Young Musicians’ Academy. For the clarinet, we offer the following lessons:
- The Standard of Excellence—for beginner students aged 8-12
- The Standard of Excellence & Supplementary Materials—for teenage and adult beginners
If you’re also interested in taking voice lessons, it’s a great idea to pair them with the clarinet. Both will teach you better breathing and control, so you’ll improve twice as fast and really round out yourself as a musician.
What Are the Benefits for You?
The clarinet can be played solo or as part of a whole group of clarinets. We’ll teach you the best technique in each situation and you’ll also pick up quite a few extra skills that will serve you well, including:
- How to develop better posture while playing—and in general
- The right way to hold your mouth and lip (called the embouchure)
- Correct breathing techniques
- Music theory and reading notes
- Improved self-confidence and self-esteem that comes with accomplishing a big task
Where Are the Lessons Run?
Lessons take place at our music studio in Ashgrove, Brisbane, or we teach out of several Brisbane primary schools. You can find all the information you need about our lesson locations here.
If you prefer, we can also come to your home for lessons or if you have a strong Internet connection, lessons can take place over Skype or Facebook instead.
How Many Students Can Attend?
Generally, we recommend 1-on-1 lessons, especially if you’re just starting out on the clarinet. But if you have a friend with the same or similar amount of experience as you have, we may be able to provide paired lessons. If this is something you’re interested in, please contact us and we’ll see if that’s an option.
If you’d like to attend group lessons, we offer music theory and percussions.
How Much Does It Cost?
Everyone is busy these days, and we know that it’s not always possible to take as many lessons as you’d like. In other to help our students get the most value out of their lessons, we’ve created tiered pricing plans. Have a look and please feel free to reach out with any questions.
