Learn everything you’ll need to succeed on any music instrument through music theory lessons at the Young Musicians’ Academy.
What You Will Learn
Music theory gives you the background and understanding you need to play an instrument at the best of your abilities. While it’s not necessary to learn music theory the very second you start learning how to play an instrument, we recommend music theory lessons as soon as possible to give you a solid advantage.
How Our Music Theory Lessons are Different
If you think that music theory sounds dry and boring, come to the Young Musicians’ Academy for an eye-opening approach to not just music theory but music lessons in general. Our specialised, professional instructors know that approaching anything in a fun, open-minded way can make learning even the most tricky concepts incredibly rewarding.
Who Is It Ideal For?
Music theory is essential for anyone who wants to take their instrument-playing to another level or for anyone who wants to pursue a career in music, whether teaching or performing. We offer the following courses at the Young Musicians’ Academy:
- Foundational Music Theory Classes — for beginner students aged 5-7
- Foundational Music Theory Classes—for beginner students aged 8-12
- Foundational Music Theory Classes—for teenage and adult beginners
- AMEB Grade 1 Music Theory Classes
- AMEB Grade 2 Music Theory Classes
For an extra advantage, why not take singing lessons at the same time? You’ll learn how to recognise individual notes, better control your breathing and voice, and be able to put what you learn in music theory lessons straight into practice!
What Are the Benefits for You?
If your instrument is the home for your talent, then music theory is the foundation for that home. It shows you the possibilities and practices of music and gives you the understanding you need to branch out from playing notes someone else wrote to composing your own. Learn how to:
- Read/write musical notation
- Build perfect, major and minor intervals
- Recognise and write major scales
- Read and understand musical signs
- Categorise and create all different types of meters
Where Are the Lessons Run?
You can choose to have lessons at our music studio in Ashgrove, Brisbane, or come to one of the several Brisbane primary schools where we teach. More information about our lesson locations here. At-home lessons are also available.
How Many Students Can Attend?
You can learn music theory at your own pace through 1-on-1 lessons. We may also be able to create paired lessons for you and a friend who’s at the same level of knowledge as you are. If that’s something that piques your interest, let us know and we will do our best to make it happen.
If you like the classroom feel, music theory lessons are also available in group sessions.
How Much Does It Cost?
We want to make sure that you get the most value out of your lessons, so we’ve created tiered lesson plans to do just that. Have a look at our price list and don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions.
