“As parents, we really appreciate the flexibility that Joyce and her team offer”
Our two boys have been learning piano through the Young Musicians’ Academy since 2010. They enjoy the mixture of leaning to play piano, rhythm work and even the theory. The program has kept their interest, and they continue to progress quickly through the songbooks. After practising their pieces for the week, they will even spend some more time dabbling on the piano. Our older son is interested in contemporary pieces (like the Harry Potter theme), and Joyce has incorporated this into his lessons.
Twice a year, they can perform in a small concert. Initially they were nervous, but now they are very confident performing in front of an audience.
As parents, we really appreciate the flexibility that Joyce and her team offer. Joyce has arrangements with the school administration to teach at the school before, during and after school. She has also made arrangements with the P&C to escort children to and from the Outside School Hours Care centre. There are also options to have lessons at their studio. All this makes it easy for us to give our children an opportunity to learn music.

“Joyce is an engaging and dedicated teacher”
Joyce is an engaging and dedicated teacher and my children thoroughly enjoy their piano lessons each week. Thank you.
“Engaging and caring teachers whilst keeping it fun.”
Amy and Joyce have been teaching my 9 year old daughter piano for 4 years now, they are engaging and caring teachers who have gently encouraged her whilst keeping it fun.
“Our intervention and support programs have benefited greatly as a result of the resources purchased from the money received from the YMA”
The YMA have operated at Ithaca Creek State School since 2010. The Academy, under the direction of Joyce Ong, has worked very diligently in ensuring that the program provided blends with the whole school philosophy and practice; the timing of the student’s lessons fit within the school’s overall timetable and excursions, incursions, school sports carnivals and celebration days are all factored into the YMA planning and program delivery.
All staff employed by YMA are appropriately qualified, diligent and punctual. They follow all school policies and procedures. YMA personnel communicate with teachers or school administration often and effectively.
The YMA assists with, and if required provides an accompanist for, our String Ensemble Concerts and School Choir Performances.
Students and parents have enthusiastically greeted and subscribed to YMA’s program to the point of needing to establish a waiting list. The number of students enrolled in the program has increased primarily through ‘word of mouth’ endorsement.
Our intervention and support programs have benefited greatly as a result of the resources purchased from the money received from the YMA.
I have no hesitation in recommending this program to you for consideration.

“We would certainly not hesitate to recommend you to any other child (or adult for that matter) wanting to learn the piano. You’re a born teacher.”
Joyce I would like to thank you for the years you have put into teaching Sienna not only the technical side of playing a piano, but the love and joy of doing so. Without your patience, understanding and kind ways, I’m not sure that Sienna would be as enthusiastic as she is with piano lessons. We certainly wish you were coming to the Sunshine Coast with us as we will miss having you as a tutor for Sienna – we just hope that we are lucky enough to find someone half as good as you. We would certainly not hesitate to recommend you to any other child (or adult for that matter) wanting to learn the piano. You’re a born teacher. Thank you.

“Learning the piano from Joyce has benefited my children musically, academically and socially through building their confidence and establishing a positive relationship with an adult role model outside of the family”
Joyce began teaching my eldest son the piano in 2005. My three other children were soon keen to learn from Joyce also. My four children are all very different, with different personalities, different learning styles and different taste in music. Joyce’s flexible and individualistic teaching style catered to each of them beautifully so that they all enjoyed learning the piano and thrived musically under her tuition.
After achieving a High Distinction in Grade 7 Piano for Leisure AMEB in 2011, under Joyce’s tutelage, my eldest son has now joined Joyce’s team of teachers and is teaching a number of young students, which he finds incredibly rewarding.
Joyce is a generous and active member of our local music community and often volunteers her time to assist and accompany other music groups at the local primary school. Learning the piano from Joyce has benefited my children musically, academically and socially through building their confidence and establishing a positive relationship with an adult role model outside of the family.
Joyce has become more than a piano teacher to us – she is an important part of the fabric of our family.

Joyce is a great teacher and very patient! My children enjoy learning piano and don’t even have to be reminded to practice which says a lot!
Joyce is a great teacher and very patient! My children enjoy learning piano and don’t even have to be reminded to practice which says a lot! After three years, they continue to improve and are now playing many of their favourite songs as well. I would have no hesitation in recommending Joyce to others.
